Your buddy is right. The clock stops after a made basket in the NBA during the last minute of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Quarters and during the last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter (and subsequent OTs). In college, the clock only stops for a made field goal during the last minute of the 2nd half (and subsequent OTs).
